[Day 1 of 7] Tracking tools and Tips

Welcome to your 7-Day Food Discovery Challenge

Today’s task is to simply download and familiarize yourself with the tracking tool that you will be using for the next week. 

We’ll be using Cronometer during the 7-Day Food Discovery Challenge.

I know that some of you might already use another tool like MyFitnessPal. But we love Cronometer because it is the only app that tracks all the micronutrient data.

This micronutrient data is critical to enable you to manage your food quality so you don’t have to worry so much about food quantity (i.e. calories, protein, fat, carbs etc).  

Don’t worry. If you don’t love Cronometer you will have to use it only for a couple of days. :)

Set up Cronometer

If you don’t already have one...

Take a few minutes now to:

  • Download the Cronometer app (available on iOS and Android), and 

Feel free to start playing around with logging today. But you don’t have to track everything you eat, that begins tomorrow.

Tracking Pro Tips: 

  • When you eat ANYTHING, take a picture of it first, then log it in Cronometer. If you forget to track, you can always go back and recreate the meal in Cronometer by looking at the picture of what you ate. 
  • You don’t necessarily have to stress about weighing and everything perfectly during the 7-Day Food Discovery Challenge. We’re more interested in what you are eating than how much you eat. 
  • When tracking food, try to select foods with the “NCCDB” tag next to them. They usually have more nutrients recorded in them.
  • This week is NOT about going on a diet where you try to restrict your calories. It's about finding out what you usually eat.
  • Don’t punish yourself to eat less or differently to how you usually do. Just track what you eat. We want you to understand your baseline first before trying to make any changes.
  • At the end of the day take 3 minutes to review your food log and add anything that might have missed.
  • It is extremely important to track everything that you eat. Many people start the day well and then “forget” to log their late-night snacks. It’s critical to get a handle on everything you are eating now so we can design the perfect personalised nutritional solution for YOU!
